Westminster, Colorado, is the stuff of Western legend and lore prior to its first homesteaders in the 1850’s, complete with small herds of buffalo and antelope dotting the landscape. Some artifacts discovered point to the habitation of Arapaho Indians in a semi permanent encampment in the area now known as Gregory Hill. The area was eventually settled by California gold rush prospectors who found their own types of treasure in this beautiful area of Colorado. The farming and beautiful vistas provided riches unavailable anywhere else in the country.

The city of Westminster still protects those early resources today with its Wide Open Spaces preservation program now in its 20th year. The city has preserved approximately 2,500 acres (4 square miles) of natural open space including the Big Dry Creek open space corridor. The city's Open Space Program has created an incredible legacy for Westminster residents and visitors. Open space provides much appreciated "breathing room," preserves spectacular views, protects wildlife habitat, increases property values and greatly enhances the city's overall quality of life.

As a suburb of Denver, Westminster is a growing community that offers a wide choice of housing, excellent schools, recreational activities and public facilities. With direct access to major highways, Westminster's central location between Denver and Boulder puts it within easy reach of major business centers, retail centers, and a variety of entertainment and recreation. Westminster has direct access to US Highway 36, Interstate 25 and Interstate 70 via Interstate 25.

The city's central location and access to the state highway system makes it easy to drive to any place in Colorado. Ground transportation is available through the city’s comprehensive Regional Transportation District bus service and commute time for Westminster workers is 27 minutes compared to the 26 minutes national average. Air travel is accommodated through the Jefferson County Airport and the Denver International Airport.
